On September 15, 16, and 17 Jude went to a weekend outing sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation called "Becoming An Outdoors Woman" or BOW. It was held at Conception Abbey in Conception, MO. |
| Conception is located about 70 miles north of Kansas City in the Northwest corner of the state near Maryville. Conception Abbey is the seminary and Abbey where Jude's uncle Brother Pius lived and worked for most of his life. As well as being interested in the outdoors program she wanted to get an inside look at the Abbey and to perhaps find her uncle's grave. |  |

Throughout the weekend one-session courses were held on various outdoor activities. Some of the courses offered were: Fly Fishing, Belly Boating, Prairie Ecology, Canoeing, Outdoor Photography, Hunting with Dogs, Fishing, Birdwatching, Wilderness Survival, Skinning and Meat Preparation, Basic Shotgun. |
| The instructors for the classes were either Dept of Conservation employees or very knowledgable volunteers. The participants themselves were all very friendly and having an attitude of wanting to have fun. Many free gifts of Dept of Conservation publications, tote bags, coffee mugs, and T-shirts were passed out. |  |

The grounds were beautiful and very peaceful. There were several little shrines. This one looked like it was homemade perhaps by some of the brothers. It was decorated with colorful pebbles pressed into the cement. The weekend was a big success. Jude learned alot, had fun, and found Bro. Pius' grave. |

| The first Saturday in October Ellen and Jude went to visit Dorf and her dogs in Jefferson City. Everyone ate too much, drank too much, and laughed alot. It was a good time. |  |

Meanwhile, Pat was chewing glass and spitting nails as she worked hard to improve her designated areas of the yard while Jude was off galavanting. |
But all good things must come to end.
