Our Christmas season got a kick-start when Pat came home from her first Christmas shopping trip with a new "pencil-pine" Christmas tree. It holds loads of ornaments but not very tightly as they are frequently falling off.

Soon we were in the mood to get out the Christmas decorations. After decorating, we all rested and admired our work.

Before long houseguests Erin and Mark arrived. Then later the same day, Tom and Chris.

Chris quickly made himself at home with his books and computer games. Below is Erin cleaning out her purse which must have weighed 5 lbs (before cleaning).

On December 27 Pat left with her friend Judy for a 6-day trip to Rome. It was a great deal that Pat found on the Internet. Below are some of their pictures. The first is Judy at the church "St. Paul Outside the Walls." The second is Pat at the Trevi fountain. The third is an artsy-fartsy picture of Pat's shadow on the "Appia Anticca" or Old Appian Way, one of the original 7 roads out of Rome, built sometime BC. The fourth picture shows Pat in front of "Kastel Sant'Angelo", which was built by the emperor Hadrian for his tomb. In later years it was also used as a fortified castle by popes who sometimes needed protection from their enemies.

Soon Pat was back home, our guests were gone, and the holidays were over. Slowly everything returns to normal.
It was another great Christmas!
